“Gott mit dir, du Land der Bayern, deutsche Erde, Vaterland!” are the first two lines in the Bayernlied, the official hymn of Bavaria. It means “God be with you, land of the Bavarians, German soil, fatherland!”. It is the official hymn of the Free State of Bavaria. In 1862, it replaced the old king’s hymn “Heil unserm König, Heil!”, which meant “Hail to our king, hail!” The monarchy even reached out to Greece, which still has the Bavarian white and blue colors in their flag. It ended on November 7, 1918. From then Bavaria was a republic, governed by workers’ councils (Räterepublik) and later officially was pronounced as a constitutional part of the Weimar Republic on August 11, 1919.
Since the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 after WWII, Bavaria is a federal state of Germany and indeed has a proud history. There are several movies which have Bavaria as content – at least partly.
