Jack Clark Obituary

Jack Avery Clark, aged 91, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loved ones at Woodland Terrace in Coloma on May 14, 2025. He was born on August 3, 1933 in Coloma, MI to Wilfred and Lenore Clark. Together they raised Jack and his sister Jill in Watervliet.

After graduating from Watervliet High School in 1952, Jack enlisted in the Army where he served as a Combat Specialist in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in the fall of 1955. Jack continued to proudly serve our country with the Army Reserves in Fort Lewis, WA until 1957. He was a recipient of a Combat Infantry Badge and a Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star. He was a proud member of the Michigan Masons and the American Legion.

Once Jack returned home he began a 40 year career with the former Michigan Bell Telephone Co. relocating to Luther, MI where his family had property. There he raised a family. After the passing of his first wife in 1981, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Mary Walker, and they married in 1982. When they weren’t traveling in their motorhome throughout the U.S. they enjoyed a quiet life on their 40 acres outside of Luther.

Jack enjoyed the simple things in life: camping with his children, wintering in Florida with Mary after his retirement, hunting and fishing on his vast property as well as cheering on his grandchildren in whatever sport they were involved in. Friends and family knew him as a quiet soul with a big heart and a fierce loyalty to those he loved. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, the MSU Spartans and the Detroit Tigers.

With his departure he leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Mary Walker Leith Clark, his daughter Janice (Mike) Oltman, his son Jack (Jay) Clark, stepsons Mike (Shirley) Leith and Mort (Janis) Leith; Special niece April Stout and Grandchildren: Tyler (Amie) Weeks, Jessica (Brad) Claus, Eric (Valerie) Leith and Benjamin (Samantha) Clark as well as numerous Great Grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and Lenore Clark, his sister Jill Clark Rosenbaum, his first wife Shirley Camp Clark, a grandson Jeremy A Clark and stepson Christopher J Leith.

Arrangements have been made thru Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.

Memorials can be made to the Michigan Masons, American Legion or a veteran organization of your choice in Jack’s memory.
