Mishcon Hosts Cross-Border Innovation Summit – Artificial Lawyer

On 25 June, Mishcon de Reya will convene a diverse group of in-house lawyers and technology specialists at the AB2L London Summit to discuss key issues faced by large in-house legal departments operating around the world.

Here, Marcelo Moura, an Associate at the firm and who is organising the event, explains what it’s all about.

Dynamic Leadership for Global GCs

Adam Woodhall, Founder and CEO of the General Counsel Sustainability Forum, will deliver the opening keynote, highlighting what he has learned from working with dozens of top tier global GCs on how they are applying dynamic leadership when handling their organisation’s challenges. Adam will also moderate the first panel, where global GCs Mollie Stoker and Marco Araujo will discuss how they are utilising dynamic leadership to navigate AI, sustainability and beyond.

Cross-Border Legal Departments

Cross-border legal departments often grapple with inconsistent or mismatched legal systems, leading to conflicting duties in areas like supply chains, tariffs, litigation, compliance, data protection, cybersecurity and more. In the second panel session Pilgrim’s Europe General Counsel, Igor Oliveira, will lead a conversation with in-house counsel operating across Europe, Africa and the Americas, sharing their first-hand experiences in overcoming these challenges.

Comparing Markets

The third panel will explore the legal tech markets of the UK, US, and Brazil. Representatives from each jurisdiction, including Artificial Lawyer’s Richard Tromans, will discuss how legal tech offerings are shaped by each country’s unique legal system.

While the US and the UK are the largest markets in monetary value, Brazil offers an interesting comparative case study. Notably, Brazilian courts manage approximately 100 million active court cases – all running electronically, many with AI support. In the US and the UK, eDiscovery services are a leading branch of the legal tech industry. In Brazil, procedural rules do not create strong disclosure obligations, but abundant litigation data generates different opportunities. Powered by unparalleled backlogs, the Brazilian analytics industry is arguably years ahead of the US and the UK. Can these countries learn from each other?

Prompt Engineering

Finally, Electra Japonas of Law Insider and oneNDA will deliver the closing keynote provocatively titled ‘Drafting Is Dead. Long Live Prompting’. Electra will explore how prompt engineering is becoming the new core skill for legal professionals, replacing traditional drafting with the ability to guide, evaluate, and refine AI outputs. She will argue lawyers must evolve to stay relevant in the prompt-first era.

International Legal Tech Association

Brought to the UK by the Brazilian Legal Tech Association (AB2L), this summit promises to attract a global audience interested in the future of legal tech, innovation and cross-border business.
