Flow is Google’s new AI video editing suite

Google has entered the world of video editing packages with the launch of “Flow,” an AI editing suite launched at IO.

Essentially, Google says that Flow is designed to help creatives explore their ideas and bring cinematic visions to life using the power of artificial intelligence. It combines Veo 3 , Gemini, and Imagen 4 models and allows you to create text prompts that will be turned into moving images. So far, it is similar to many existing AI video generation tools.

However, Flow differs in that it allows you to create clips using previously generated videos and your own assets. It’s unclear how this will handle multiple inputs, but Google has said that Flow will be capable of creating “stunning cinematic outputs” that “excel at physics and realism.”

The updated models are designed to enhance the experience with Flow. Veo 3 is now capable of creating videos with audio baked in. This can include ambient sounds like background traffic noise, main character dialogue with improved lip syncing. Image 4 is now able to create images in a variety of aspect ratios up to 2K resolution, which improves the generation of intricate fabrics, textures, water, and animal furs. Google also says that its newest model is up to 10x faster than Imagen 3.

You can access a “Camera Controls” function that gives you direct manipulation over camera movement and angles in specific shots. While the “Scenebuilder” option sounds allows you to edit or extend shots seamlessly. There’s also “Asset Management” option to keep all your creative bits organized, and “Flow TV” which is like a showcase of videos created with Veo, complete with the prompts and techniques used, which should help people get to grips with creating videos via this new application.

You will even be able to use an outpainting feature to adjust the framing, broaden the shot, and adjust to suit the medium you’re working with. Object addition and erasing tools are also present, so you can clean up shots or remove imperfections.

Google has also collaborated with filmmakers to understand how Flow can best fit into their workflows. They’ve partnered with people like Dave Clark, Henry Daubrez, and Junie Lau, who are already using AI tools in their filmmaking. While it is still controversial, Google seems to see Flow as a way to empower a new wave of storytellers and unlock fresh creative possibilities – even those not versed in the intricacies of video content creation.

Flow is the next logical step from Google’s earlier VideoFX experiment. Right now, it’s available in the US for those who subscribe to Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra plans. The Ultra plan even gives you early access to Veo 3 with native audio generation. Google Al Pro gives you 100 generations per month with Flow, while Google Al Ultra gives you the highest usage limits and early access to Veo 3 with native audio generation, environmental sounds, and character dialogue in videos.
