Filevine, the case management platform, has launched a new AI Legal Assistant so you can ‘chat with your case’. Filevine’s application of genAI here is very broad and deep, handling everything from finding factual discrepancies, to very specific questions about a party’s insurance status, to just wanting to know ‘how is X case going at the moment?’ You can even ask for tips on how to advance your case.
For example:
‘Go beyond simple summaries and leverage FIlevineAI’s analytical capabilities to gain deeper insights into your cases:
Find Discrepancies: Identify inconsistencies or contradictions in key facts, dates, events, or testimony.
Example: “Are there any discrepancies in medical treatment in this case I should be aware of?”
Follow Up: Uncover gaps in information, unanswered questions, or areas requiring further investigation.
Example: “Are there any concerns with liability in this case?”
Tasks to Create: Identify potential tasks based on the case activity and information.
Next Steps: Get suggestions for productive next steps to move the case forward.
Example: “What can I do to move this case forward?”
Red Flags: Surface potential risks, ethical concerns, or conflicts of interest.
Example: “Tell me all the red flags.” “What are the strengths and weaknesses of our case?”’
You can use a library of pre-built prompts, but also customise them to your needs. Plus, you can even find out where a case is in terms of its progress. And you can ask both very specific questions (e.g. ask about a document using its file number, or a fact about a party) and more general ones:
‘What types of documents have we received from Dr. Jones?’
‘What is the defendant’s insurance policy limit?’
‘When did we serve defendant discovery, and what was their response?’
And all of this will save time, while the ability to do things like find discrepancies will do more than just provide efficiencies – it could change the outcome of a case.

Is this a big deal? On one level Filevine is tapping tech that many other legal tech companies are deploying, but consider the fact that just a couple of years ago this type of approach across an entire range of documents and use cases would have been impossible in the litigation world.
Then consider how much time this will save any lawyer working on a case. How many hours are spent just ‘finding things’…across the entire legal sector? It must be billions of dollars in lost time (if you’re billing with time).
So, this is significant indeed.
