Perplexity AI has officially launched its chatbot on WhatsApp, as announced by CEO Aravind Srinivas on LinkedIn. This move follows the earlier rollout of the bot on Telegram under the name “askplexbot.” The WhatsApp integration marks a significant step toward expanding the reach of Perplexity’s AI-powered assistant across widely used messaging platforms.
Unlike the native Perplexity app, which requires users to sign up, the WhatsApp version allows instant access without any login. Users can ask questions, perform research, summarise content, and even generate custom images for free. The rollout aims to democratise AI access, especially in regions where WhatsApp is a primary mode of communication.
Rivals like OpenAI have already taken a similar route, and Perplexity is now doing the same to broaden its reach and grow its user base.

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed that the chatbot’s WhatsApp integration will soon gain new capabilities, including voice interactions, meme and video generation, fact-checking tools, and assistant-style support. Group chat integration is also on the roadmap, though its rollout may be delayed due to current API limitations within WhatsApp.
In parallel, Perplexity has updated its iOS app to introduce voice mode and other advanced features, aligning it more closely with its Android counterpart. These upgrades aim to position Perplexity as a robust, cross-platform AI assistant with seamless functionality across apps and devices.

To use Perplexity AI on WhatsApp, users can either save the number +1 (833) 436-3285 to their contacts or search it directly within the app to start chatting. The process mirrors how ChatGPT is accessed on WhatsApp, though unlike Meta’s native AI integration, Perplexity requires manual initiation.
Perplexity AI is now accessible on WhatsApp across smartphones, desktops, laptops, and WhatsApp Web, making it easier for users to engage with AI tools without needing additional apps or logins. By integrating with a widely used platform like WhatsApp, especially in markets like India, Perplexity lowers the barrier to AI adoption and taps into everyday communication habits to deliver research, summaries, and content creation tools more seamlessly.
