AUSTIN, Texas — Austin nonprofits are getting a boost to help develop artificial intelligence skills.
On Wednesday, Google.org – the company’s philanthropy sector – announced it’s donating $1 million to the Austin Community Foundation. The money will be used to help give AI training to local nonprofits.
The effort is part of Google’s AI Opportunity Fund, which aims to equip 1 million Americans with AI skills. The program will offer in-person workshops, webinars, coaching and peer learning opportunities.
“Google.org’s AI Opportunity Accelerator creates a collaborative pathway for nonprofits to explore how artificial intelligence can meaningfully enhance their operations and program outcomes,” said Mike Nellis, CEO of Austin Community Foundation. “We’re grateful to collaborate with Google.org and Project Evident on this innovative initiative and are excited to see how local organizations will leverage AI to work more effectively, ultimately creating a stronger, more resilient Central Texas.”
A recent Google report found more than 40% of nonprofits surveyed had no staff trained in AI technology.

This will help nonprofits improve efficiency, focus on their mission, and reach even more people.”
